Every late November I get a little geeked about what’s going to be on my end-of-year Spotify Wrapped Playlist. It’s a playlist of my top 100 songs that I’ve listened to through out the year. I like making guesses about what will be on it and what old songs I’ll be reminded of.
For some reason I can’t embed this playlist, so instead here is a link:

Let me go through a breakdown of the top 5 songs:
- Eddie – by the Red Hot Chili Peppers: I was not surprised that this song was my number 1. This song is a tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen, and features some (as usual) expert guitar work by Frusciante that almost feels like Kurt Cobain trying to play Van Halen. I learned quite a few parts of this song on guitar (which is another reason why it was on loop). I really dig the vibes of this this song.
- Imperium – Ghost: This song had a slight advantage (along with numbers 4 and 5) in that I had saw Ghost in concert over the Summer. This song as an opener (as it opens their most recent album) really got my psyched – I love the melencholy feeling as the guitars sort of triumphantly add up.
- Lost – Linkin Park: Honestly this song came out of left field – I don’t listen to a lot of Linkin Park. This song was an old song “out of the vault” from the Meteora album. It really felt consistent with that album and I really enjoyed the song when I first heard it
- Respite On the Spitalfields – Ghost: Somehow this song went under my radar and I never really paid much attention to it – but then I heard it live. The slightly mystical guitar sounds during the verse, and then eventually evolving into Imperium at the closing really makes me excited.
- Spillways – Ghost: This song is about needing an avenue for your inner demons to express themselves, and there were parts of this year that I totally felt that need – another great tune by Ghost.
